State Squads

The first step of the Badminton Australia Performance Pathway is for players to be invited to their state/territory squad training sessions. These sessions are delivered by the state/territory associations and supported by Badminton Australia.

A number of States / Territories across Australia have implemented one of the first steps of the Badminton Australia Performance Pathway being state based regular squad training sessions. These sessions are organised and delivered by the state/territory associations and supported by Badminton Australia. The main objective of this initial step in the performance pathway is to provide an opportunity and experience for players demonstrating the potential for talent in the state to come together, train and support each other with their development. The state associations (in consultation with Badminton Australia) will be responsible for athlete selections to this squad.

  • Regular group training
  • Athlete development plan
  • Ongoing coach professional development
  • Club daily training environment resource support
  • Annual squad training plan

Each State & Territory across Australia has the opportunity to run a state development squad supported by Badminton Australia. As part of these squads, athletes are given the chance to take part in regular group training with other similarly skilled competitive athletes.  Coaches can be supported so that each athlete can have a development plan built specifically for their needs to ensure their development is optimal. Coaches will receive ongoing professional development along with support to ensure that the athlete Daily Training Environment is appropriate to their needs.
