BA to Use National Rankings for all National Individual Events

At the BA Board Meeting on 18 February it was agreed that it was now time to base the seeds for all national events solely on national rankings. By so doing this will elevate the status of the ranking system and encourage players to play in as many ranked events as possible during the year. It will also encourage all Members to submit a good selection of Events for inclusion on the ranking list and you are encouraged to do so.

This new approach is designed to elevate the status of the ranking list, encourage players to take the list seriously and allow organizers to finalize and circulate all draws for individual events in advance given the individual event seeds will no longer be dependent on results in the team event.

Given that BA wants to encourage a broader range of ranking events BA has decided that for all Junior Events ( U19/U17/U15 ) that this approach will be adopted from 2013 onwards. This allows time for all coaches, administrators and players to be fully aware of the change and allows BA to consult with NZ about the impact of the change on the Australasian U17 Event. However, in relation to the Senior Closed National Individual Event to be held in Sydney in August 2012 BA has decided national rankings will be applied allowing the draw to be circulated in advance of the Event.

Please pass this information onto your Event organizers, coaches, players and administrators so all have plenty of time to understand how seeds for individual events will be determined and reminding all of the importance of national rankings. Please also examine your State based Events and submit those events, if you have not already done so, that you believe should be part of the ranking process.
