BA Support Structure and National Squad Selection Policy

Written by  Saturday, 08 October 2016 21:23

Nominations are now open to be part of the Badminton Australia Support Structure (BASS) and the Badminton Australia National Squad.

The selection policy, nomination details and further information can be found by vising the BA Support Structure Page under the High Performance tab on the BA website.

The policy outlines to all players, coaches and stakeholders:

  • How players can be supported by BA and be selected into the National Squad
  • What progression / results are expected from the athlete to be retained in the program
  • That players who do not qualify for individual support or for the National squad still can be involved in the HP program by being selected for an Australian Team.

The first part of the policy describes the 'Enhanced BASS'. That is a framework that makes it more clear what results, ranking and skills are required from players to get support and to be selected for the National Squad. It also shows the progression in results, ranking and skills that are required to continue to be supported and remain in the National Squad. A player is expected to progress through the structure from Emerging to Development to Podium Potential to Podium.

The framework is built by Badminton Australia, based on the progression timelines created by the Australian Institute of Sport through the Winning Edge structure.

The second part of the policy describes the 'Team BASS' and outlines the framework for National Squad and Australian Team selection. This will be supported by event specific selection criteria.

This selection criteria will ensure a better understanding on what the HP Program is trying to achieve, how players are selected for the National Squad, what BA expects from players and the support that BA can provide to the players.

All players who want to be part of the BASS have to apply using the online application form on the BA Support Structure Page.

Nominations will be assessed on an ongoing basis however the deadline for the first intake is Thursday November 10.
