Junior Development Program
The Badminton Australia Junior Development Program (JDP) plays an important role in the overall success of the High Performance Program. The development of a large pool of talented junior Australian players is critical for our international success at the senior levels.
The Junior Development Program aims to:o facilitate the growth of the sport at junior levels;
o provide appropriate training and competitions to maximise player potential;
o ensure clear player pathways to national and international levels.
The JDP is designed with the following underpinning elements:o a broad base of players;
o access to competition which is appropriate for individual skill levels;
o clear pathways from grassroots to the national level;
o a holistic approach ensuring players are “well rounded”;
o State/Regional Squads;
o a national Development Squad;
o National training weekends for the Development & Future Squad;
o national tournaments and carnivals;
o international competition;
o strong links with the High Performance Program.
Australian Junior Commonwealth Games SquadThe Australian Commonwealth Games Association has provided funding from 2007 - 2010 to support talented national junior badminton players through the Australian Junior Commonwealth Games Squad (AJCGS) program. This funding is used annually to support Australian Junior Teams to compete on the international stage and it targets potential Commonwealth Games athletes.
