International Tournaments and National Carnivals
Badminton Australia is responsible for the planning and successful delivery of seven national and international events every year. These consist of three IBF sanctioned international tournaments and four national carnivals. These tournaments are organised in partnership with host associations who are awarded the events through a bidding process.
International Tournaments
There are three IBF sanctioned tournaments hosted in Australia annually. These are part of the Oceania Badminton Confederation tournament circuit which includes three international tournaments in New Zealand, one in Fiji and one in Samoa annually.
The premier international tournament in Australia each year is the Australian International.
National Carnivals
There are four National Carnivals hosted annually in Australia. These are:
Clendinnen Shield & Australian Closed Championships
CP Maddern Trophy & Australian Under 19 Individual Championships
Each National Carnival has a similar format - the first part of the Carnival is a teams competition and this is followed by an individual championship.
Player rankings for each of the desciplines are determined at each Carnival. The selectors use the Carnival Ranking Guidleines when determining the rankings.
