High Performance Program

Based around a centralized training model under the direction of the National Coach, the High Performance Program is underpinned by sports science and incorporates the technical, tactical and mental preparation of elite athletes. The HP Program has an integrated strength & conditioning program with both on and off court components. Badminton Australia has two squads - the National Squad and Elite Squad, both training at Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre.

The High Performance Program aims to:

  • provide quality training and international competition to maximise player potential;
  • integrate clear player development pathways ensuring internationally competitive athletes;
  • deliver international success for Australian elite players.

The Badminton Australia High Performance model is underpinned by:

  • sports science and sports science services;
  • Key Performance Indicators (the physiological demands of the sport on athletes);
  • individualised training programs - strength & conditioning and on court technical / tactical / mental preparation;
  • fitness testing – laboratory and field based test protocols;
  • sports medicine support services - sports doctor, physiotherapist / chiropractor / masseur, podiatrist, dietician;
  • team building to support individual development;
  • international tournaments and competitions;
  • quality sparring opportunities and international training camps;
  • athlete education - a holistic approach ensuring players are “well rounded”.
  • The HPP has two committees supporting the program:

The High Performance Committee (HPC)

The HPC is primarily responsible for the oversight of the HP Program. The committee determines the long term strategic directions of the HPP, develops relevant policies/procedures that underpin and guide the program, establishes the performance objectives against benchmark events and evaluates performance outcomes against these benchmarks.

The Sports Science Advisory Committee (SSAC)

The SSAC is primarily responsible for ensuring the HP Program is underpinned by sports science. It ensures sports science and sports medicine services are an integral part of the overall program. The SSAC provides specialist sports science advice to enhance sports performance outcomes.
