Veeran Cuises Through While Oon Crashes Out

 

Renuga Veeran comfortably won her way through to the second round while Nelson Oon went down in a tought 3 set match on the opening day of play at the 2010 India Open in Channai.

Veeran, who will team up with brother Raj in mixed doubles, had a straight sets victory over local player Anita Ohlan to progress to the second round. There she will take on another local player in Thulasi P C, who ousted 4th seed Maja Tvrdy in her opening match.

The story was not as bright for Nelson Oon. A semi finalist at the Canterbury and Mauritius Internationals, Oon was looking to take the next step in a Grand Prix event. Although Elango Aditya of India proved to strong for the Australian, outlasting Oon 21/10 8/21 21/13 in a tough three set match.

Australia's brother sister combination are scheduled to get their mixed doubles campaign underway at 2:40pm (AEST) while Renuga will take the singles court at 10:05pm (AEST). You can follow their progress live via the Tournament Software website.
