Several Australian players got a tough introduction to playing badminton in the sweltering heat if South East Asia when the Li-Ning Singapore Youth International got underway today. Of the players who started today New South Welshman Huaidong Tang was the only won to come away with a win.

Twelve of the nation’s leading badminton juniors will have the chance to make a name for themselves after being selected to represent Australia at the 2013 Australian Youth Olympic Festival (AYOF).

There are no Australian players left in the World Junior Championships after the final remaining players Jacqueline Guan and Gronya Somerville were knocked out of the women’s doubles yesterday.

Australian’s were in action in the men’s singles, women’s singles and mixed doubles on the opening day of the individual competition at the Word Junior Championships in Chiba, Japan.

Victory over the USA in the final tie at the World Junior Championships has secured an overall 19th place finish for the Australian Team.
